Do you sometimes need a pick me up? In this time of staying at home and staying away from people, you may find you need a pick me up more often than you used to. I have found music can definitely soothe the soul and it can definitely lift my mood!
From The Osmonds to Wham
I have always loved music. I love to play it, I love to sing it, I love to immerse myself in it. Growing up, my go-to musicians started out as The Osmonds. The first record album I remember getting for Christmas that was solely my own was the soundtrack to the movie, The Sound of Music.
As I got older, I loved the K-Tel records of current hits. I listened to the song, Run, Joey, Run, for years never knowing what that song was truly about! I just loved the refrain, and singing it at the top of my lungs when I was 10 was extremely therapeutic. Who knew it was about a girl who got pregnant and her father shoots the boyfriend!!!
Then the 80s came – oh, the wonderful 1980s! Madonna, Micheal Jackson, Duran Duran, Wham, Howard Jones, ABC, Animotion….. so many great tunes! Who’s mood couldn’t be lifted listening to Wake Me Up Before You Go, Go? I think so many songs make you feel good because they also bring us back to a simpler time in our lives.
As I got older, there were many other songs that brought out the sheer joy of life and couldn’t help but make me happy. Some from the 1950s/1960s, some from the 2000s and beyond.
Here is a list of some of my favorites:
Walkin’ on Sunshine
Uptown Funk
Can’t Fight the Feeling
Happy, from Despicable Me 2
Wake Me Up Before You Go, Go
Shut Up and Dance
The Best Day of My Life
